After five years with a fantastic GitHub-platformed website designed and maintained by our very own Martin O’Donnell, we have taken the plunge into the world of WordPress with a brand new website.
This new website has been built from scratch with a view to easy navigation and clear information for all who visit. In particular, we hope that prospective new members and their parents/guardians will find the About pages informative and reassuring. For our existing members, we have a new Member Resources area, where our Scouts and their parents/guardians can find helpful info – like what to pack for an overnight activity or where to sew on a particular badge.
We have a swish new page advertising our benefits to new adult Volunteers, in an effort to continue the growth of our fantastic team of Scouters. If you are reading this and you would like a fulfilling hobby where you can meet other like-minded people, then just get in touch!
I can’t forget about our News page, where you can keep up-to-date with the major developments in Newry Scout Group. Our Scout Group is very active on social media, so you can also follow us there for more regular and engaging updates. You can find us on: Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube and Google… to name but a few!!
As I launch this website in the 80th year of Scouting in Newry, I can’t help but think of our Scouts in years gone by. I’m sure an all singing and dancing website was the last thing the Scouts of 1945 were thinking about, yet here we are in 2025. You can read more about the History of 1st Dromore Newry Scout Group on this website.
We have a huge diaspora of Scouts, who have all been successful in life. Some of you may be reading this and not in a position to volunteer your time, but yet you still may want to offer your support. We have carried over the donation page from the old website and we are most grateful to anyone who would like to Donate to our Scouting journey in Newry.
Thank you for taking the time to read the first item of news on our new website. I look forward to meeting you soon on the Scouting trail!
Yours in Scouting,
Rónán McGibbon
Group Leader
