History

This is our story.

We've been doing it since 1945

It all started with an Investiture...

On this page, I hope to feature a comprehensive story of words and pictures to capture a thorough history of our Scout Group: from the 6th Down Scout Group to the Cathedral Boy Scouts, from the CBSI days to the Scouting Ireland days, from the Air Scout Troop of the 1970s to the first mixed gender Scouts and Ventures of the 1990s.

As this is our 80th year of Scouting in Newry, I would like to prepare a history stretching back to 1945 which we can read, enjoy and share with future generations of Scouts. Unfortunately, my first-hand experience only goes back as far as 2006. This is why I am putting a call out for help to write a collaborative history of the 1st Dromore Newry Scout Group, in all its various iterations. If you were involved in Scouting in Newry for any length of time (as a youth member or as an adult), please get in touch and share your knowledge!

Together, we can preserve our story before it is lost to time.

Yours in Scouting,
