Sunset and Sunrise Scout Camp

Our Scouts and Ventures met up on the Ballintemple Road for a Sunset and Sunrise Camp on Saturday 10th May. They hiked up the back of Slieve Gullion and set camp near the mythical Calliagh Berra’s Lough at the top of the mountain. After some dinner which was cooked on a mixture of Trangias and gas cooker stoves, we set off for the North Cairn to watch the sunset on what only could be described as a glorious day. After the sunset, we headed back to camp, had a cup of tea and into the tents as the temperatures soon dropped having little or no cloud cover.
5 am came around very quickly the following morning, not too much sleep was had by quite a few 🙂. We set off for the South Cairn and got there for the sunrise. They then all crammed themselves into the Cairn. After a while, we headed back to camp to make breakfast and then break camp, it was turning into another beautiful day (not used to 2 good days in a row especially when we pitch a tent). We set off down the mountain, taking in the two bus shelters. Once we got to the forest drive we followed it back to the play park in Slieve Gullion, where the Scouts and Ventures took the opportunity for some free time. At 11:30 we set off again for the meeting point on the Ballintemple Road for 12 noon, where their parents were there to collect them. Another fantastic adventure!
