Growing Scouting in Newry – We Need More Adult Volunteers

Scouting in Newry is growing.

Each week, 143 young people come through the doors of our Scout Den to learn new skills, build confidence, make friendships and challenge themselves in ways they never imagined. From camps and hikes to community service and leadership development, Scouting plays a powerful role in shaping young people in our town.

But Scouting does not run on its own.

It runs on volunteers.

Every section in our Group is led by adults who give their time freely. They plan activities, run meetings, attend training, organise events and create the safe, positive environment that allows young people to thrive. They do it because they believe in what Scouting offers.

As our numbers continue to grow, we need our leadership team to grow with them.

We are now actively seeking new adult volunteers (Scouters) to join us. No prior experience is needed. Full training is provided, and new volunteers are supported by experienced leaders. Many of our current Scouters started by simply offering to help for an hour a week.

You do not need to be an outdoor expert.
You do not need to have been in Scouts before.
You simply need to be willing to give some time and energy to young people in our community.

Volunteering as a Scouter is rewarding, challenging and genuinely enjoyable. You will learn new skills, meet great people and make a lasting difference in the lives of young people in Newry.

We are planning ahead to ensure the long-term sustainability of our Scout Group. By welcoming a few more adults into our leadership team now, we can continue to offer high-quality Scouting for years to come.

If you are interested in finding out more, we would love to have a conversation. There is no obligation – just an opportunity to see what is involved.

Please contact Rónán McGibbon (Group Leader) on hello@newryscouts.com or send us a message.

Scouting runs on volunteers. If you can give an hour a week, we’ll provide the rest.
