On a blustery but dry Tuesday, fifty two of our youth and adult members gathered to march in Newry’s annual St Patrick’s Day parade. This was a strong showing and all the young people were well turned out in their uniforms or 80 years t-shirts.
The day started with a group photograph and the Investiture of one of our newest Beaver Scouts, James. As the clock struck 13.00, the parade sprang to life and off we went. We had two young people carrying a banner with our name and logos, Ronan McGrath driving his car which was pulling the float, and then three neat lines of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Ventures. Most of the young people were waving flags which we had made in the preceding weeks. These flags were emblazoned with true Scouting vocabulary like camping, hiking, smores, friendly, kind, prepared, fun and many more.
We chanted our way along the Albert Basin, the Quay, through Sugar Island and then around Kildare Street to finish us off on the Mall. We all dispersed on St Mary’s Street and enjoyed the rest of the celebrations with friends and families. Well done to all the Scouts who turned out so well.
